Dental Checkups & Cleanings for Children

Biannual dental checkups and cleanings are just as important for children as they are for adults. After making sure your child is comfortable in the dental chair, we can closely examine their smile to make sure that there aren’t any problems developing. During these visits, we can give your child tips for practicing better oral hygiene at home. We can also take note of how their mouth is developing and let you know if there are any issues that need to be addressed.

Dental Sealants

The molars and premolars have pits and grooves where bacteria can easily become trapped. Many children have a hard time cleaning their molars and premolars properly, so what can you do to protect these teeth from decay? In many cases, dental sealants can make a big difference. Dental sealants are plastic coatings that can cover the teeth’s chewing surfaces, thus giving them an added layer of defense against cavities. It’s generally recommended that your child have sealants placed as soon as their molars and premolars come in.

Frenectomies/Lip & Tongue-Tie Treatment

Infant sticking out their tongue

The lips and the tongue are both connected to the mouth by a piece of tissue called a frenulum. If your child has a frenulum that is too short or thick, they may not be able to move their lips or tongue properly, potentially leading to problems while feeding as well as a number of other issues. Our team can help your child avoid the worst long-term consequences of a lip-tie or tongue-tie with a laser frenectomy. This is where we use a gentle laser to remove the unneeded tissue so that the lips or tongue can move properly. The frenum can also be the reason that the child’s two front teeth do not close creating a gap.

Pulp Treatment

Does your child have a toothache? It may be a sign that the pulp of the tooth in question has become damaged or decayed. In order to save the tooth, we may need to perform what is known as a pulp treatment. This involves removing the pulp so that it can’t cause further problems. Pulp treatment can potentially involve taking out part of the pulp or the entire pulp; the approach we utilize depends on the situation.
