New Dental Patients Owings Mills

Helping You Prepare for Your First Appointment

Dr. Monica Mattson and her team want patients to feel comfortable and well taken care of from the very first time they step through our front door. That’s why we’ve cultivated a new patient experience that helps us learn everything we can about you and your dental needs in a warm, convenient fashion. Let us walk you through the process of what you’ll experience at your initial visit to our Owings Mills dental office. Call us if you have questions.

Your First Dental Visit

Sign-In with Receptionist

One of our friendly receptionists will greet you when you first arrive, verify your insurance information, and have you complete and sign any needed forms. You may spend a brief amount of time in our waiting room, but we provide several amenities that you’re welcome to enjoy at any point during your appointment, such as television monitors, sound-blocking headphones, and even children’s toys for the littlest members of your family. All you have to do is ask!

Visit with the Dental Treatment Coordinator

Once we’re ready for you, the dental treatment coordinator will come out to greet you and escort you back to our consultation room, where we’ll take your blood pressure and pulse oximeter, review your health history questionnaire, ask a few dental profile questions, and explain how your insurance works.

Initial Meeting with the Dentist

At this time, Dr. Mattson will introduce herself and review your health and dental history, as well as conduct an initial screening exam. During this time, she and her team will plan for X-rays and study models if needed.

X-Rays with the Hygienist

You’ll then meet your hygienist, who will process your radiographs and take several oral camera shots so that we can get a complete picture of potential problems. They will also do periodontal probing so as to determine the current health of your gums. Once this is completed, a few minutes will be needed for us to retrieve your X-rays and begin your clinical exam. During this waiting period, we’ll be happy to provide you with some reading materials.

Clinical Exam with the Dentist

Dr. Mattson will carry out your clinical exam with the help of the treatment coordinator, who will enter the appropriate information into your chart. During this time, she will be sure to comment on any signs of dental decay or damage so that you can be aware of the problem, how to fix it, and how your oral health may be affected in the future if it’s left untreated. Once your exam is complete, she’ll then leave you in the capable hands of the treatment coordinator.

Discussion with the Dental Treatment Coordinator

During this time, we want to ensure that you completely understand the full scope of the treatment the doctor recommends, including how many visits it will take to successfully complete the suggested procedures and what the cost of each portion will be. The treatment coordinator will explain your different payment options and help you decide on the one that best fits your needs and budget. They will provide you with a copy of the treatment plan to sign as well. You will then be able to choose a time for your next visit with the scheduling coordinator, after which you’re finished!
